The Buzz: A few Fox Valley places still give cash for recycling cans

Reader question: I recently accumulated a number of aluminum cans and thought I would take them to one of those roadside recycling machines. The ones on South Oneida Street, all three of them at one location, were non-functional. A few weeks ago there was a sign on the ones on Kensington saying that they were out of order. Is turning in recycled cans and getting back money over in the Fox Valley?

Answer: No. There are still a few places left that will pay you for aluminum cans.

If readers have been using a particular recycling machine or business that they’d recommend, please email me with some details. I’ll revise the list of options in a future column.

Several recycling places appear to have closed in recent years. Both Appleton Aluminum Recycling on Kensington Drive in Appleton and A to Z Recycling in Neenah have disconnected phones.

Here are a few that are open with how much they were paying for cans on Monday. The prices are almost half of what they were a few years ago.

•Gibson Iron Metal and Auto Salvage, 139 S. Fieldcrest Drive, Neenah, 920-722-2821. Open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. Pays 25 cents per pound for aluminum cans.

•Goldin Iron & Metal, 300 Farmland Drive, Kaukauna. 920-766-4201. Open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday. Pays 30 cents per pound.

•Napuck Salvage & Supply, 680 Tuller Road, Neenah. 920-722-2854. Open 7:30 to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. Pays 27 cents per pound.

•Aluminum Can Recycling, behind Citgo at 2775 W. Wisconsin Ave., Appleton. Posted hours are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. Pays 20 cents per pound.
