Company says new warranty allows municipalities to reduce costs.

Charlotte, North Carolina-based Wastequip’s Toter brand, a leading manufacturer of two-wheel carts for curbside collection of waste, recycling and organics, has a 12-year cart body warranty, which it says is the longest warranty in the industry. Good on all Toter two-wheel carts sold to municipal or waste hauling company customers, the new 12-year cart-body warranty is two years longer than those offered by the company’s competitors, allowing municipal customers to save money and significantly decrease their total cost of ownership through significantly longer replacement cycles, Toter says. The 12-year warranty covers the cart body; all other cart components are covered up to 10 years.

Toter carts are produced through a patented molding technology known as advanced rotational molding. According to the company, this process ensures a longer service life (15 to 20 years on average) and uses less plastic than other methods.

“Because Toter works closely with municipalities throughout the country, we know that there is unprecedented pressure on them to do more with less, to decrease costs and to reduce their carbon footprints,” says Jim Pickett, vice president of Toter sales. “Our products and warranty are designed to address those needs head-on.  Our carts are designed to be tougher and to last longer, which means they need to be replaced less often—reducing the hassle of calls and complaints, keeping old carts out of landfills and saving time and money.”

While many municipalities allow their waste management providers to select their trash cart vendors, an increasing number of municipalities have chosen to work directly with trash cart manufacturers to address specific requirements such as those outlined above or in response to a need for specialized carts, such as animal-proof options, according to Toter.

The company says it offers cooperative purchasing through National IPA, allowing municipalities to ensure a low price without the time or cost associated with going to bid.

Organization issues RFP to counties, municipalities, tribes and solid waste authorities with 4,000 or more households.

The Recycling Partnership, Falls Church, Virginia, has released its latest request for proposals (RFP), which intended to help counties, municipalities, tribes and solid waste authorities with 4,000 or more households upgrade to cart-based collection of recyclables.

“Carts can reliably capture 450 pounds of clean recyclables per household per year on average,” according to Cody Marshall, technical assistance lead for the Recycling Partnership. “They also bring cost savings and improved work safety. That’s a programmatic trifecta, and we’re eager to help more programs realize those benefits.”

The grants will provide funding for recycling carts, tailored educational materials and technical assistance from the Recycling Partnership’s staff. Successful applicants must provide comprehensive curbside recycling collection programs, meaning all homes that receive curbside garbage services must receive a recycling cart to be eligible for this grant. Additional details and eligibility requirements can be found in the RFP.

“This marks our second annual RFP for carts, and between the cart launches to date and related research we are well geared to make the transition as smooth and straightforward as possible for local programs,” Marshall says. “To date we’ve helped put 165,000 carts on the ground in communities across the U.S., and we’re eager to keep building.”

Potential applicants may email any questions to the Recycling Partnership’s Project Director Karen Bandhauer at kbandhauer@recyclingpartnership.org by March 31, 2016, at 5 p.m. Eastern time. Final proposals must be received electronically by 5 p.m. Eastern time April 15, 2016.

Additional details are available in the RFP and Proposal Application Form.

Combined companies have more than 90 years of experience in manufacturing cable recycling equipment.

As of Jan. 1, 2016, Redoma Recycling AB, Sweden, joined the Eldan Group, headquartered in Denmark, as a fully owned subsidiary to Eldan Recycling A/S. The companies form the world’s largest manufacturer of cable recycling equipment with 90 years of joint experience, according to Eldan.

Eldan Recycling has been manufacturing cable recycling equipment for the last 60 years. The company says it has sold and installed several thousands of cable recycling lines around the world. Eldan says its machines are built with high-quality steel and that no cast iron parts are used in its shredders and granulators. The rotors are machined from solid steel, and all electrical controls and PLC (programmable logic controllers) programming is designed by Eldan in-house. The company says its focus has been to design and produce robust and long-lasting recycling equipment for the scrap recycling industry.

“Today Eldan is a market leading supplier of cable and WEEE (waste electrical and electronic equipment) recycling lines for high-capacity installations. With capacities ranging from 2,000 kilograms (roughly 2 tons) per hour up to 12,000 kilograms (roughly 13 tons) per hour, we are one of the most powerful suppliers in the market,” says Dr. Toni Reftman, managing director of Eldan Recycling A/S.

Eldan says its equipment is designed to process heavy and tough materials at higher capacity. The equipment can be used for lighter applications as well.

To make the process more cost efficient as well as to lower initial investment costs, Eldan Recycling A/S says it has incorporated Redoma Recycling AB. Redoma specializes in designing and manufacturing small and midsize cable recycling lines. Since 1984, Redoma has delivered and installed several hundred cable recycling lines worldwide and is a market leader in small and midsize cable recycling lines, Eldan says.

“Redoma has like Eldan its own design. The machines are lighter and smaller compared to Eldan equipment, making our companies a perfect match,” Reftman says.

“Redoma will still be acting as an independent equipment supplier,” he continues. “As a member of the Eldan Group, Redoma will be using technology from Eldan and also from its Swedish sister company Rapid Granulator AB.”

Traditionally, Redoma offers three types of cable recycling lines, Thunderhawk, Powercat and Firefox, offering cost-efficient, tailor-made system solutions with capacities ranging from 200 kilograms (440 pounds) per hour up to 2,000 kilograms (4,400 pounds) per hour.

For tough or reinforced applications, Eldan says its shredding technology can be incorporated in the Redoma systems.

“By adding Redoma recycling equipment to the Eldan portfolio, we create the largest and most competent cable recycling equipment manufacturer in the world with a joint experience of 90 years,” Reftman says. “For our customers, this means that we are now able to offer cable recycling equipment in any price segment and for any type of cable. We have small compact lines for less than €30,000 as well as heavy-duty equipment handling large, heavy-reinforced cables in high capacity applications.”
